Our Tutors

All our tutors have been personally interviewed and vetted by Blue Kite founder Madelaine Berlin.

Our Blue Kite Requirements are unmoveable, but they alone are not enough to secure registration with our agency. The value of a personal interview should never be underestimated. Teachers who have an extraordinary list of credentials but not the ‘spark’ needed to find the extraordinary in their pupils are not considered; the pupil is at the centre of what we do and our tutors are people who elicit the very best in young people.

Experience has highlighted that face-to-face interviews are becoming less and less thorough and valuable with national tutoring agencies. If you are considering a private tutor, with Blue Kite or elsewhere, then please feel happy to ask for references that you can check – any reputable tutor will jump at the chance to provide you with these.

Our Tutor Requirements:
  • DBS clear checked (formerly CRB)
  • 2+ years teaching and/or tutoring experience
  • Degree educated
  • Verifiable references (2+)
We know that private tutors should:
  • Love working with children and young adults.
  • Understand how to pace one-to-one sessions so that every lesson is valuable and organised.
  • Know their subjects and keep abreast of changes.
  • See tutoring as a career or an additional career and not a ‘bit on the side’.
We steer clear of private tutors who:
  • Promise the world and guarantee unachievable goals.
  • Give children answers so that they can demonstrate ‘immediate successes’, rather than enabling independence.
  • Do not possess the personable qualities needed to build memorable working relationships.
